The Pre-college program is a really great experience. You get a true understanding of what college will be like- with the challenging courses, heavy course load, and limitless freedom. It is a big undertaking for the participant, and you have to learn to budget your time and motivate yourself to work. But aside from the academics, there is lots to do for social and free time activities. Outside of class you are free to do as you wish as long as you check in with the RA by 11pm. This program is definitely not for an antisocial student because there are about 2,000 kids for precollege on campus at a time, so it is your responsibility to make friends, but lots of activities are hosted by RAs and staff to help kids socialize. There is a lot to do in Providence; downtown, a big mall and arcade, a beach only for the Brown and RISD kids, plus the opportunity to take trips with Brown PreCollege or on your own. A couple of friends and I took the MBTA train to Boston for the day to meet up with some friends and it was a lot of fun. The program is really fantastic :)))
