    Overview

Between the Lines (BTL) brings students ages 16-19 from abroad to the University of Iowa in Iowa City to join American students who are interested in strengthening their creative writing skills while also reading diverse literature and meeting students from other cultures.  Find out more!

A two-week summer camp, BTL will host two different programs, the first brings together students (16-19) from Russia, Arabic-speaking countries in the Middle East and North Africa, and the U.S.. A second smaller session unites Americans with students from Silk Routes countries India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, the Maldives, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the Kyrgyz Republic.

During the program, students are quite busy every day, taking a morning Global Literature seminar and attending a Writing Workshop each afternoon. Evenings are often filled with cultural exchange activities in Iowa City and surrounding areas. Each year we hand-select instructors who are also well-known writers and poets, one from each region.
