J2Guides is a gap year counseling service that puts students at the center of the gap year planning process. Co-founders Jane and Jason Sarouhan are nationally accredited gap year counselors who have spent the last 25 years working with young adults in experiential education.
If you are here then you are thinking about a gap year. And if you are thinking about a gap year then you are someone who is ready to question, to learn, and to grow. If along the way you are looking for compassionate, enthusiastic, experienced and authentic gap year mentors, J2Guides is the right place for you.
No two students or gap years are the same, which is why J2Guides offers a tiered service designed for all interests, needs and budgets. You know you, and we know the gap year, so let’s bring our best together in the service that is right for your family:
Explore the Gap - Learn how to plan an intentional and fulfilling gap year. Sharing their 25 years of experience, Jane and Jason guide students through the most critical information, resources and strategies of gap year planning: setting goals, establishing a budget, assessing safety and researching gap year opportunities. By the end of this gap year planning master class, you will know your gap year vision and have the tools to achieve it. Join a cohort of other gap-bound students, or work independently. Can’t make the live workshops, or have an expedited timeframe? All workshops are recorded, and a fully self-paced option is available. Want more support after Explore the Gap? Add-on Plan the Gap whenever you are ready.
Plan the Gap - Many families want personalized program recommendations to help them meet their gap year goals. Plan the Gap includes: Explore the Gap (see above), 3 hours of one-on-one planning meetings with your gap year counselor, and 3 additional workshops during the gap year (pre-departure, mid-year and re-entry) to support you at these important transitions. In your one-on-one counselor meetings, you and your J2Guide will create a gap year plan with specific, high quality, vetted gap year experiences. We do not take commissions from programs. Our recommendations are tailored to each student’s specific interests, needs and budget. Want more support after Plan the Gap? Add-on Bridge the Gap at any time during your year.
Bridge the Gap - Our most comprehensive service, Bridge the Gap is ideal for families who have multiple goals and/ or who want a longer-term mentor to support them throughout their gap year. Bridge the Gap includes our signature gap year training, Explore the Gap (above); individual counselor planning meetings and program recommendations from Plan the Gap (above); and an additional 3 hours of one-on-one calls for students to continue their work with Jane or Jason for more program referrals and personal support as the year progresses. These sessions can be used anytime during your gap year so you can make the most of our guidance - including new ideas and program options - when you really need it.
