    Overview

At VHBG we believe every child has a gift, and the goal of John G. Wood Alternative School is to help each student find that gift and gain the confidence needed to become successful in school.

John G. Wood School offers comprehensive specialized educational services for students in grades K-12. The schools general educational curriculum is aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning and offers a broad range of elementary, middle and high school courses in language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, health and physical education, as well as numerous elective options including on-line Edgenuity courses. Students can earn an IEP or Standard Diploma or work towards their General Education Diploma (GED). We offer the Vocational Educational Partnership Program (VEPP), a career oriented class designed to teach soft skills for employment and work to help place students in to employment situations with extended support.

Teachers and trained behavior specialists at John G. Wood are incorporating the Teaching-Family Model into the curriculum and work together to provide students and their families the best therapeutic education alternative. Our school strives to be student centered by putting whats in their best interest above everything else. Our desire is to send our students back to public school, to pursue higher education or to enter the work force prepared to be productive adults.
