    Overview

The Hillside School and Learning Center offers a complete, accredited and college-focused 4-year high school program, as well as a complete and accredited 3-year junior high school program. Our school serves grades 7-12 with both a middle and high school. We offer tutoring and educational therapy for all grades K-12 and post high school support.

Established in 1971 by Robert E. Dannenhold as a non-profit educational support facility for students with learning disabilities, The Hillside School has evolved into an interactive, participatory learning experience that focuses on the capabilities of each student and makes students aware of their ability to succeed. The Hillside School and Learning Center utilizes four proven scholastic techniques to reach and empower its students. Small class sizes, one-to-one teaching, positive reinforcement and psychological direction work together to reach students who have disengaged from learning_whether due to psychological, behavioral or medical factors.

The Hillside School and Learning Center offers a complete, accredited and college-focused 4-year high school program, as well as a complete and accredited 3-year junior high school program. Unlike some schools that offer less challenging classwork for students with learning or behavioral disabilities, we do not dumb down our curriculum. Our small class sizes and focused teaching techniques permit us to motivate students beyond their expectations.

Admission to The Hillside School is on a rolling basis. We understand that students sometimes need a change in the middle of the school year, and not always at the start of a new one. This may be due to one or more of the following – an academic, social or emotional reason – and Hillside’s teaching philosophy embraces meeting the student where he/she is and help them succeed. This means that we accept students at all times throughout the year.

Admission is by interview with parents, submission of relevant documents and assessments, and a half-day visit by the student.

The mission of The Hillside School and Learning Center is to provide an intimate environment in which students are guided to obtain the academic knowledge, life skills, and self-confidence to pursue a post-high school education, vocational education, or meaningful employment.
