    Overview

American School is your school of choice, offering quality accredited middle school and high school courses in online and paper-based formats at a cost you can afford! Choose from full-year or full diploma programs or take individual courses for credit recovery or to enrich an existing homeschool program.

For students in grades 9-12, American School offers a general high school diploma program and a college preparatory diploma program. Each program consists of 5 units of credit per year for a total of 20 units of credit required to earn a diploma. The general high school program is designed for students who wish to join the workforce or attend a community college after graduating from high school, while the college preparatory program is designed for students who plan on attending a four-year college or university after graduating from high school.

For students in grades 6-8, American School offers a middle school program. Each year of middle school consists of 5 units of credit—1 each in English, math, science and social studies, plus an elective.

Students in full-year programs for grades 6-12 can choose between online or paper-based courses, which ensures that they will learn in the course delivery method that is best for them. Curriculum is from some of the leading textbook publishers and curriculum providers, and all course materials are written to specific standards for a particular subject or grade level.

Tuition is $950 per year, so the entire 20-unit high school diploma program costs $3800, and the entire 15-unit middle school program costs $2850. Monthly payment plans are available for students in full-year programs, and tuition includes all course materials, grading of exams, and access to the online student center, where students and parents and retrieve academic records, monitor course progress and receive additional assistance.

Some students and families may be satisfied with an existing homeschool program but may wish to add courses for enrichment. Others may attend a traditional school but need to take individual courses for credit recovery.  For these students, American School is proud to offer its courses on an individual basis. Most individual subjects cost $300 each for a full unit of credit and $250 each for a half unit of credit. Select courses cost $200 each for a full unit of credit and $150 each for a half unit of credit, while select advanced courses cost $400 each for a full unit of credit and $350 each for a half unit of credit. In addition to core subject areas such as English, math, science and social studies, American School offers elective courses in business, career and technical education; fine arts; and world languages powered by Rosetta Stone. For select high school students, American School offers select AP courses, with enrollment in AP courses available from approximately July 1 to August 31 each year. There is no limit to the number of individual courses a student may take.

American School is accredited by MSA-CESS, Ai and NCPSA, recognized by its home state of Illinois, and has been a leader in distance education since 1897, serving students in all 50 states and more than 65 countries around the world.
