The Center for K12 STEM Education at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering offers immersive educational programs for middle and high school students in exciting fields within science, technology, engineering, and math.
Explore innovative technologies and exciting subjects in science and engineering through programs at NYU’s Tandon Center for K12 STEM Education! Through two-week intensive workshops, students develop practical skills in exciting STEM fields and prepare for success in college and beyond. There are three spring and summer programs for students to choose from:
XR Through Virtual Worlds teaches the fundamentals of designing and developing augmented reality (AR)–based video games that focus on telling choice-driven stories. Students will learn to create narrative-based games with engaging, interactive stories that unfold in the real world via AR, blurring the boundaries between the virtual and real. Using tools such as Twine, ARKit, ARCore, and Blippar, students will design and build their own AR games over the course of the program.
Machine Learning introduces high school students to the data analysis, computer science, mathematical techniques, and logic that drive the fields of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI). Students will learn machine learning’s core principles such as model development through cross validation, linear regressions, and neural networks. They will develop an understanding of how logic and mathematics are applied both to “teach” a computer to perform specific tasks on its own and continuously improve its performance along the way.
Connected Devices introduces students to concepts related to the vast network of “smart” devices known as the Internet of Things (IoT). Tailored lessons and activities will reveal the underlying principles and architecture of IoT networks, devices, programming, data, and security and inspire students to think outside the box when it comes to designing devices and systems.
