    Overview

Through a conservatory approach in a liberal arts setting, University of Redlands School of Music students learn to perform, interpret and teach music in a rich learning environment that provides a broad education and intense training.

The School of Music at the University of Redlands is the second oldest nationally accredited music program in California. The School has 13 full-time faculty, 26 adjunct faculty, and 3 staff members. Currently, the School of Music has 160 Music Majors in a variety of programs including the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music, and Music Education, and graduate degrees including master's degrees in Performance, Composition, and Conducting.

In the School of Music our goal is to educate the whole musician, not just to train a performer. All great performances go far beyond technical mastery to include a sense of history, society, culture and art. The University of Redlands' studio teachers are among the finest musicians and teachers in Southern California. The classes are small and your teachers will know you as a person, not just as a name on a class roster.

Whether music is your major or you just have an interest in music, everyone is encouraged to participate in the diverse, musical environment found on campus. At Redlands you can perform in the Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, University Choir, the Madrigal Singers, Chapel Singers, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, Percussion Ensemble and Opera Theater Workshop. Performance opportunities abound with more than 200 performances presented on campus annually, including the University's holiday tradition, the Feast of Lights. The School of Music also has a very close relationship with the Redlands Symphony Orchestra (RSO). Redlands students get to see their teachers perform in Memorial Chapel as the principal players in the RSO. Qualified students have the opportunity to play in the RSO as an assistant, substitute, or section player.

The School of Music offers two undergraduate degrees: the Bachelor of Music in Performance, Composition or Music Education and the Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Music, as well as a Minor in Music.

The School of Music also offers a Master's degree in: Performance, Conducting, Composition, Pedagogy, and Vocal Chamber Music as well as an Artist Diploma.
