    Overview

Through world-class studio training and challenging academics, Muhlenberg produces flexible, collaborative, inspired artist-thinkers well-equipped to contribute to the greater good. The college offers outstanding vocal, instrumental, dance, acting, and production training in addition to rigorous programs in studio art and art history. Students have access to countless hands-on opportunities to perform and exhibit their work.

The Muhlenberg theatre and dance experience offers a direct learning partnership among faculty and students — in the classroom, the studio, and the performance laboratory. Students are nurtured, supported, and encouraged to take risks. The department offers students daily opportunities to foster the most important goal of the liberal arts experience: education of the whole person.

The theatre major allows students to explore an academic program designed to provide a thorough background in the history, theory, and literature of performance with frequent opportunities for structured studio experiences in performance and design. Small class sizes allow for personalized instruction, with work that is intensive, demanding, and rewarding. Students are encouraged to individualize their education to fulfill all of their personal, creative, and intellectual goals.

The Muhlenberg dance program is dedicated to teaching how to think about the art of dance and its connection to the larger world and is built upon deep commitment to both the art and the science of dance.

Students involved with music at Muhlenberg receive personal attention from faculty who work with students to help them achieve their goals as musicians. The department offers courses as  diverse as Electronic Music, World Music, Women in Music, Haydn and Mozart, History of Jazz, Techniques of the Avant Garde, and the Music Senior Seminar.

Muhlenberg’s Department of Art has an interdisciplinary, interactive, and international focus. The visual arts curriculum is built on a foundation made strong by Muhlenberg’s broad-based liberal arts programming. Students may pursue majors and minors in both studio art and art history, and diverse course offerings offer preparation for not only M.F.A. and Ph.D. programs around the nation and world but for success in fields as varied as art education, publication editing and design, medical illustration, medicine, and law.
