The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) was co-founded by Sir Paul McCartney in 1996, has quickly established a reputation as one of the world’s leaders for the performing arts training for those who perform and make performance possible.

Our unique curriculum replicates the working practices of the arts & entertainment industries and over the last three years, on average 91% of our graduates were in work, 82% in the performing arts.  We are home to around 950 students in total, with approximately 25% of our students are from outside the UK and over 30 nationalities are represented.

The university if situated in England's city of Liverpool, a UNESCO City of Music, listed as the Guinness Book of Records “World Capital of Pop” and home to more museums, galleries and listed buildings than any other UK city outside of London. It is a publicly funded, university level institution offering 3 year degree courses and one year masters/ graduate school courses in the performing arts, including:

BA (Honours) Acting (Like the US BFA programs, our program teaches classical and contemporary acting and elements of Musical Theater).

BA (Honours) Acting (Screen & Digital Media) (prepares you to work across established and emerging performance mediums, for both on screen performances and gain off-camera skills)

BA (Honours) Community Drama (In the US, this is more commonly known as Community Arts or Applied Theater)

BA (Honours) Creative Technologies and Performance  (for storytellers, filmmakers, creatives and technicians, who use new audio visual technologies to deliver exceptional content for film, tv, theater, concert, and online audiences)

Applications can be submitted via our website and there is no application fee. We hold auditions and interviews in the US each Spring, details of which are available here. We receive over 3000 applications for just 300 places each year and although admission is competitive we pride ourselves on being a creative, collaborative and supportive community.

Tuition fees are approximately $25,000 per year and we are approved by the US Department of Education for Federal Financial Aid. Liverpool is an affordable student city – everything is within walking distance and the cost of living tends to be much lower than elsewhere in the UK (particularly London).
