    Overview

    Gavilan College offers Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees, and certificates in a variety of career fields. Gavilan College is also the only community college in northern California offering degree and certificate programs in Aviation Maintenance Technology. The Studio Art Program at Gavilan College provides students with at strong studio experience that integrates conceptual and technical artistic skills with personal and creative exploration.

    Gavilan offers exceptional studio art courses in the foundation areas of drawing, painting, design, sculpture; in art history we offer courses that span from prehistoric times to the present in both Western and non-western cultures and societies. Our additional areas of expertise are in Ceramics, Art Education, Gallery Technology, Murals and Community Art, and Photography. Upon completing the program, students will be prepared to continue a personal, creative journey or transfer to a four-year institution for further study.

    Students completing this program will be able to critically analyze and interpret the ways in which people through the ages have responded to artistic and cultural expression.  Fostering divergent thinking with the aim of optimizing students’ capacity for producing new and innovative ideas, and forming the foundation for this program.  Upon completing the program, students will be prepared to continue a personal, creative journey or transfer to a four-year institution for further study.

    Art Major Program: To complete the Art Major Program, the student must complete a minimum units in each category, plus a minimum of 3 additional units specified in each category, Plus a minimum of 3 additional units of Art electives to complete minimum total of 24 units.
