Special Olympics Massachusetts provides year-round sports training, athletic competition and other health-related programming for athletes with intellectual disabilities throughout the state.
The mission of Special Olympics Massachusetts (SOMA) is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of well-coached Olympic-type sports for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics Massachusetts also provides athletes with continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, prepare for entry into school and community programs, express courage, experience joy, and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics Athletes, and the community.
Special Olympics holds approximately 120 events throughout the state of Massachusetts, including 4 statewide sporting events and 4 statewide fundraising events. Volunteers are needed to assist with sports timing and scorekeeping, registration, and special events such as opening ceremonies and dances, and administrative functions. We also need people to jump in the ocean in February, ride their bikes on September, or participate in a fun run in December to raise money for Special Olympics MA.
