Historic Speedwell will preserve and interpret information and artifacts relating to the domestic and industrial life of Stephen Vail (1780-1864) and his family; the Speedwell Ironworks; and the perfection of the telegraph.
Historic Speedwell, a history museum located in Morristown, NJ, seeks outgoing, energetic, independent individuals to assist as volunteers for the site. Volunteers will participate in giving tours of the Homestead Estate of Stephen Vail (1780-1864), including the Factory, a National Historic Landmark; assist with school and public programs; support the activities of the collections department; and carry out clerical duties as needed. All volunteers will work closely with staff members to achieve the overall goals of the site. We are looking for people able to volunteer 12 hours a month during our open period, Wednesday to Sunday, from April through October. Volunteers will receive site orientation and interpretive training prior to independent work. A love of learning is required, an interest in history and/or science a plus!
