    Overview

Gateways: Access to Jewish Education ensures that children with a full range of learning styles, abilities and challenges can participate meaningfully in Jewish education and community. We provide an array of state-of-the-art educational programs, supports and resources to meet the individual needs of each child in a variety of Jewish settings.

If you are a Boston-area teen in grades 10 – 12, you can apply to be a volunteer in Gateways’ Jewish Education Program!

In this standalone program, we provide a high-quality, joyful Jewish educational experience to children and teens with a range of disabilities and learning needs. Students discover Jewish holidays, texts, and traditions, learn to read Hebrew, prepare for b’nei mitzvah, engage in tikkun olam (repairing the world), and build meaningful relationships with Jewish peers. Teen volunteers in the program have the opportunity to be matched with a student and serve as a one-on-one aide in the classroom.

Our Teen Volunteer Program isn’t your average volunteer experience. What makes our program stand out is not the skillset you’ll gain or the volunteer hours you’ll collect, but the relationships that you’ll build with students as you support them in experiencing a Jewish education that is both accessible and meaningful.

In addition to having the opportunity to work directly with students, teen volunteers receive weekly training and support from on-site special education teachers and administrators, learning valuable skills they can take with them to college and beyond.

Gateways accepts applications during the spring and summer for the following school year. To find out more about how to apply and volunteer, check out our website!
