    Overview

The Science Research Mentoring Program (SRMP) at the American Museum of Natural History is an opportunity for New York City high school students in 10th & 11th grade to conduct one year (August–June) of scientific research with Museum scientists. This is a paid internship opportunity.

60 students begin with a 4-week Summer Institute focused on developing skills and understanding of data science, and designed through equity and justice lenses. All students join AMNH research labs for the academic year and work with Museum researchers on projects connected with ongoing research in astrophysics, anthropology, and biology for 260 hours. Students will meet monthly throughout the school year at advisories for professional development, science development, and equity. The program ends in June to share thier findings at the June Colloquium.

We are a global museum in one of the most diverse cities in the world, and we are committed to building an inclusive youth community that reflects that diversity. We believe in addressing the barriers that prevent everyone from equally participating in science, particularly on the basis of race, gender, or sexual orientation.
