The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, Co-Founded by Sir Paul McCartney in 1996, has quickly established a reputation as one of the worlds leaders for the performing arts training. LIPA’s unique curriculum replicates the working practices of the arts & entertainment industries.
The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts is one of the United Kingdom's leading institutions for performing arts. The university if situated in England's city of Liverpool. It is a publicly funded, university level institution offering 3 year degree courses in the performing arts, including:
BA (Honours) Acting (Like the US BFA programs, our program teaches classical and contemporary acting and elements of Musical Theater).
BA (Honours) Community Drama (In the US, this is more commonly known as Community Arts or Applied Theater).
BA (Honours) Dance (Like the US BFA program, we train dancers to work professionally. You will learn ballet, contemporary, jazz, commercial street dance styles, aerial dance, musical theater & tap).
BA (Honours) Music (We train students to work as performers, composers, songwriters and producers across many genres including rock, pop, soul, jazz and alternative).
BA (Honours) Music, Theater and Entertainment Management (In the US, this program is a combination of subject areas known as Arts Management, Arts Administration and Music Business Management).
BA (Honours) Sound Technology (In the US, this is more commonly known as Audio Engineering or Recording Arts).
BA (Honours) Theater and Performance Design (In the US, this program is more commonly known as Theater Design and includes set design, costume design and lighting design).
BA (Honours) Theater and Performance Technology (In the US, this program is more commonly known as Technical Theater and includes theater, sound and lighting design, stage management and stagecraft).
Tuition is approximately $25,000 per year. We are approved by the US Department of Education for Federal Financial Aid. We hold auditions in the US in February and March each year. 25% of our students are from outside the UK and over 30 nationalities are represented. We recieve over 3000 applications for just 250 places each year but although it is competative to enter LIPA we pride ourselves on being a creative, collaborative and supportive community. Our aim is to develop your creativity, open new horizons and ultimately give you the skills you need to build a lasting career in the performing arts. Most recent figues show that over the past four years 96% of LIPA graduates are in employment with 87% working in the performing arts. To achieve this our curriculum is constantly changing to meet the changing needs of the arts and entertainment world.
