    Overview

Beacon College offers academic degree programs to students with learning disabilities and/or ADHD. With an 8-to-1 student to faculty ratio, Beacon College instructors give students individualized academic attention. Students can major in liberal studies, human services, or computer information systems.

Beacon College's distinctive mission focuses on the academic and career success of students who learn differently. The greatest proof of the impact of Beacon's educational opportunities can be found in the success of its students and alumni. Seventy-six percent of students enrolling at Beacon College graduate in just four years - compared to the national six-year graduation rate of 59% among full-time students attending a private college or university. Furthermore, 83% of Beacon College's recent graduates immediately enter the workforce upon graduation or continue their academic studies at leading colleges and universities.

Beacon offers students who learn differently a choice of career-focused majors leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree. The college also offers associate degree studies. Undergraduate degrees may be earned in: Business Management, Computer Information Systems, Human Services, Interdisciplinary Studies, Psychology, and Studio Arts. Students may also work towards minors in: Art, Business Management, Computer Information Systems, Education, English/Literature, History, and Psychology.

Beacon College offers a highly individualized program of study where each student can expect to be taught in a way that he or she learns best. Continuous student feedback guides the learning process. All Beacon faculty members are trained and proficient in meeting the needs of students who learn differently, with expertise in experiential learning, assessment design, and use of assistive technology and different learning models. Outside the classroom, skilled learning specialists provide one-on-one academic support, working with students to create a personalized plan to enhance their academic skills and become better, more effective learners.

Beacon College's current annual tuition of $31,916 is competitively priced with other private colleges and universities nationwide. Generous scholarships and financial aid are available. Additionally, because Beacon College is dedicated to exclusively serving students with diagnosed learning disabilities, the cost of attending Beacon includes valuable medical tax deduction benefits for many families. Beacon's program also qualifies many students to receive state vocational rehabilitation funding.

    • I entered Beacon as a transfer student, and the environment here varied greatly from my previous college experience because I was provided the support I needed to achieve my academic goals. Professors understood my abilities and my needs and assigned challenging yet attainable assignments. My learning specialist was also there as my supporter and cheerleader. I could always admit when I needed help. In my first semester at Beacon, I earned all A's, which helped my confidence grow and motivated me to continue to succeed. I ended up becoming a teaching assistant for two courses that had previously been very difficult for me- math and science. Immediately after completing my bachelor degree requirements, I was accepted at Webster University for graduate school in the field of counseling. My goal is to become a licensed mental health counselor specializing in treating young people with eating disorders.

    • Before coming to Beacon College I was struggling in a different college thinking that maybe I was not meant to be in college after all. I couldn't decide on one major I wanted to follow so I chose three and none of them was a match for me. I was beginning to lose all hope for my future. My decision to leave home and my comfort zone and move to Beacon College is the best decision I ever made. Through my years at Beacon College I have learned to love this place. Beacon College means more than anything to me. It will always have a place in my heart. I consider Beacon College my second home, a home made up of a small family that cares very much for each other. What I love about Beacon College is the fact that it gives you a chance to shine and prove to yourself and others that you are capable of achieving more than your best expectations. Beacon College is the place to make your academic dreams come true. Now that I have graduated I hope to work in film directing, film production, film editing, and photography, especially on themes like our oceans, the land, animals and astronomy. My focus is on getting the experience that leads me to success through meaningful contributions in my chosen field.
