    Student Testimonial: LMU Summer Programs

Posted November 28, 2022, 12:42 pm by TeenLife

Ashley Lamson, 2023 - LMU Summer Programs

Why did you choose to participate in this program?

I chose to participate in Loyola Marymount University’s Film Production: Social Impact Filmmaking Summer Pre-College Program because of my passion for film and to get a sense of being away from home."

How did you decide which program was right for you?

I have wanted to go to film school since I was a freshman, so taking a college course to see if I’m ready for the type of classes I would take was a great eye-opener. After doing my research I knew my class would be small and I would learn so much.

What was a typical day in your program?

With 10 of us in class, we all bonded and worked so well with each other. We would all go to class in the morning. After that, we would go to lunch where I got to hang out with students in other programs. After lunch, we would go to our afternoon class. In our class we would learn about techniques of filmmaking, working with equipment, and the process of producing films. In the last two weeks of our program, we used what we learned and produced our own films that we wrote, directed, and edited. Although the program was a lot of work, it was manageable and enjoyable. Outside of the program I got to spend time at the pool, on the bluff, enjoying activities with our Resident Advisors, and just hanging out with friends.

What was the most memorable moment of your program?

Although all of it was memorable, my favorite part of the program was my shooting day for my final product. I got to go to LMU’s Playa Vista Campus to film and worked with a wonderful actress and the best crew I could ask for. The whole experience made me realize how much I deeply love film and want to pursue it. It also made me realize that I am comfortable being across the country away from my friends and family.

What advice do you have for teens looking at programs?

For teens looking at a program to apply to or attend, I recommend looking at what students had to say and what the program offers. Doing research really helped me understand what the program was all about. I’m so thankful for my experience at Loyola Marymount University and highly recommend the opportunity.
