The Williwaw 17-day Maine Peaks & Paddles Expedition begins with a backpacking trip in the spectacular Mahoosuc Notch in the White Mountains. The next four components are run in true expedition style as we make our way afoot and afloat for 12 days to Mount Katahdin.
We begin our expedition spending three days backpacking and developing our wilderness skills, discussing backcountry safety and Leave-No-Trace camping, and getting to know the rest of the group. We then set out on a six-day backpack trip through a part of the 100 Mile section of the Appalachian Trail. Our four-day descent of the Penobscot River begins with a day of inflatable kayaking in whitewater, then on to the slow moving upper branch and through Chesuncook Lake in expedition-style sea kayaks. We then transition to larger rafts until we rejoin the Appalachian Trail, where we continue on the trail to the summit of Mount Katahdin.
