Overview
We have a summer in Storrs for you!
UConn's Pre-College Summer Dramatic Arts: Theatre course provides high school students the opportunity to experience the intricate world of theatre at a nationally ranked public university campus.
You Future Starts Today.
Offered during Session 1, our Dramatic Arts: Theatre course presents students with an insider's look into what makes a production click. This one-of-a-kind opportunity not only allows students to build skills and explore the many facets of the industry, but to grow as positive and disciplined team players who are ready to dive in and collaborate.
Acting: Students will participate in theater games and text work designed to strengthen their craft as actors. They will improvise, devise and perform short scenes with their peers in an environment that is supportive and fun.
Playwriting: Students will learn the basics of structural analysis and write their own short scripts that will contain all the elements of storytelling structure.
Backstage: Students will attend a professional musical theatre performance in Connecticut Repertory Theatre’s Nutmeg Summer Series and participate in a talkback with the professional actors. A backstage tour will be included.
This program is offered with special thanks to UConn's Connecticut Repertory Theatre.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update: After careful consideration and comprehensive discussions with many who are deeply invested in the health and education of our students, we have decided that the most responsible course of action is to cancel all Pre-College Summer 2020 sessions. Unfortunately, the Program's focus on providing a residential experience with hands-on courses does not make online learning a realistic or feasible option.
