Overview
We have a summer in Storrs for you!
UConn's Pre-College Summer Animation Studio course provides high school students with or without previous experience the opportunity to explore the world of amination at a nationally ranked public university campus.
Curious About Studying Art, Illustration or Animation?
Offered during Session 1, our Amination Studio course serves to introduce students to the basics and history of Animation. We provide our students hands-on experience by through learning traditional cell animation, stop motion and 3D Claymation as well as teaching them the “tricks of the trade,” storyboard development and character development. Students will also have the opportunity to dig into contemporary topic such as collaborative storytelling and navigate multiple animation techniques within a single production. This session offers students great insight to the process used by professional studio animators by providing them an opportunity to learn Dragonframe, the software program that is an industry standard for stop-motion animation.
Participants will leave the course with a few souvenirs of their experience:
- A framed piece of art based on the character they develop;
- A 3-D sculpted model of their character and an "animation reel" highlighting three unique approaches to studio animation
The content provided from this session can easily translate to portfolio materials for college applications.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update: After careful consideration and comprehensive discussions with many who are deeply invested in the health and education of our students, we have decided that the most responsible course of action is to cancel all Pre-College Summer 2020 sessions. Unfortunately, the Program's focus on providing a residential experience with hands-on courses does not make online learning a realistic or feasible option.
