Learn firsthand from sports industry and journalism professionals about the challenges and the opportunities in the rapidly evolving field of sports media.
Today’s media landscape is evolving at an ever-increasing rate – for the sports industry, this evolution has brought both opportunity and challenge. From team branding and storytelling, to athlete-driven media, to the changing face of sports journalism and social media (and other topics in between), this course invites students to investigate the dynamic world of sports media and to consider the possibilities for its future.
Through a combination of seminars, guest speakers, site visits and attendance at sporting events, students will track major trends in sports media, explore the variety of careers it offers and determine what it might take to enter and succeed in the field.
Day trips will vary based on the instructors and terms. Past site visits in this discipline include:
- MLB Network
- NBA Entertainment
- Yankee Stadium
- Live games (major and minor league baseball, soccer, women’s basketball)
- The New York Times newsroom and/or The Times printing press
