Overview

Public Communications is a four-week, 3-credit program that gives high school students the opportunity to take a college-level, credit-bearing course in the field of Communications and Mass Media in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

Public Communications is a six-week, 6-credit program that gives high school students the opportunity to take two college-level, credit-bearing courses in the field of Communications and Mass Media.

In COM 107 Communications & Society, students will learn about contemporary problems of the media; legal, social, economic, and the psychological implications of their relationships with society. This foundation course is required of all undergrads during their first year at S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

Students then select a second 3-credit course from the 2018 Liberal Arts and Sciences course list that does not conflict with the day and time of the COM 107 class. Optimally, this class will enhance the student's education in Communications.

All programs and courses at Syracuse University Summer College are college-level and led by Syracuse University faculty and instructors. Noncredit and college credit-bearing programs are offered and run at different lengths (2, 3, 4, and 6 weeks) from June 30 through August 10. Field trips and activities on campus give students the opportunity to relax, have fun, and make new friends.

Residential students stay in a university residence hall and eat in a university dining hall. Students also have access to all of Syracuse University’s facilities, which include the library, recreation centers, and student centers. Room and board are included in the overnight summer program costs.
