Welcome to the Land Down Under! Whether you're looking to engage in hands-on community service, trek across the Outback, or snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef, we've got you covered with 9 different programs to choose from.
In 1983, Rustic Pathways made its first exploration through the sparse Australian Outback. Thirty-five years later, our nine adventure service programs across the breathtaking Outback still form the backbone of our company. Experience Australia’s natural wonders as you snorkel the Great Barrier Reef, hike the beautiful Glass House Mountains, spot wild koalas in a national park, and learn how to surf from expert coaches along the Sunshine Coast. Feel like an Aussie as you learn how to play a didgeridoo, throw a boomerang, and cook over a campfire, or get hands-on with unique wildlife while volunteering at Steve Irwin’s world-famous Australia Zoo.
Aussie Surf and Service --camp, visit the Steve Irwin Zoo, sandboard down giant dunes, and learn how to surf! While on the coast you’ll monitor humpback whales at a marine mammal research center. You’ll also give back to the community by volunteering at an elementary school and playing basketball with special needs students.
Epic Outback -- an authentic, backroads service expedition through the remote regions of Northern Australia. This trip heavily emphasizes community service and focuses on the challenges faced by Aboriginals living there today.
Great Barrier Reef Dive Expedition -- get certified as a PADI Open-Water diver or get your Advanced Certification if you’re already a diver. Learn about environmental issues threatening the reef. Snorkel with Dwarf Minke Whales and record observations on their behavior, which directly contributes to the ongoing research of our service partner organization.
Island Survival -- sharpen your survival skills on this journey by working with Australian Army Specialists on a deserted island! You'll be ready to crush the next season of Survivor!
Seven Wonders of Australia -- witness the absolute best that Australia has to offer by journeying through the land down under. You'll get to see the Outback, Glasshouse Mountains, Great Barrier Reef, and more unforgettable places while helping with critical turtle conservation efforts on the coast.
Seven Wonders of Australia (Summer College Program) --in just two weeks you’ll visit five different UNESCO World Heritage sites. Explore the Daintree rainforest and snorkel the Great Barrier Reef (add-on scuba dive for certified students only). Learn about Aboriginal culture at Kings Canyon and Ayers Rock national parks. Finally, navigate through Sydney and it’s famous beaches, Manly and Bondi.
The Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve Project (Summer College Program) -- designed for college students, this program partners Rustic Pathways with the Australia Zoo to give students a chance to discover native species and work alongside professional biologists and researchers in the wild Outback!
You, A 'Roo, and Australia Zoo -- a service-heavy program that emphasizes environmental and wildlife conservation and places students as volunteers alongside rare, exotic animals at Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo.
Young Explorers: Land Down Under -- visit Australia Zoo, experience farm life, learn to surf, sandboard and snorkel—this is an action packed program! Along the way, help at a wildlife rehabilitation center and an elementary school to meet Aussie students.
