Raleigh International's Summer Programs (4, 5, 7 and 10 weeks) in Nepal, Costa Rica and Tanzania are a unique opportunity to be part of a global movement of youth leaders; to conserve and protect the environment; and work alongside communities on the issues they face.
Raleigh offers summer travel abroad programs in Costa Rica, Nepal and Tanzania from June to September 2020.
About Raleigh Expedition
Raleigh Expedition is an international volunteering program, open to all and engaging young people from around the world. Expedition is one of four programs delivered by the youth-driven development charity, Raleigh International.
Raleigh Expedition is one of the first UK programs accredited by the Gap Year Association (GYA).
The program engages students (aged 17-24) in creating long lasting change on community, environmental and adventure leadership projects in some of the most spectacular and remote places on earth! These projects help tackle environmental issues, access to education for all, and alleviate poverty.
It's a real volunteer experience you will never forget. Real people, real projects, real change!
How does the Expedition program work?
Students volunteer in one of our three locations abroad: Nepal, Costa Rica, or Tanzania for 4, 5, 7 or 10 weeks. During the Expedition, students will participate in up to three different projects, dependent on the length of time they volunteer for.
Imagine a world where everyone has access to clean water, sanitation and basic hygiene services. Where everyone, even the most marginalised have access to education. You can play your part in making this a reality.
Work with schools and community groups to change behaviours and raise awareness of issues such as handwashing and hygiene. Live and work alongside local people to help improve water systems, building water tanks, toilet blocks and handwashing stations. Help improve access to education building schools in indigenous areas. Work on real projects and real issues in rural communities. You might only be in a community for a few weeks but the influence that you can have on your world is huge.
We don’t need to tell you that the world is facing unprecedented environmental challenges. Our environmental projects make small steps toward long term impact.
Live and work in some of the world’s most biodiverse places. Take an active role in protecting natural resources and vulnerable environments by working in national parks or on reforestation projects. Help build local knowledge to help people adapt to climate change and sustain rural resources.
Adventure Leadership Trek
Challenge yourself and discover incredible landscapes on a stunning Adventure Leadership trek. Develop your leadership skills and learn about the power of team effort. Go back to basics and become self-sufficient. Your trek will be an experience that brings you together with other volunteers, and one you’ll never forget.
Our volunteers report that the program raises their aspirations, builds their confidence, broadens their horizons and outlook, helps develop character and resilience, supports better academic performance and employability, and inspires further volunteering and active citizenship.
How long can I go for?
10 weeks - The 10 week program is the most immersive Expedition. You will get the opportunity to take part in 3 different projects (Community, Environmental and Adventure Leadership Trek), in 3 different locations, with 3 different groups.
7 weeks - If you don’t have as much time, the 7 week program is a great option. You will do 2 different projects, in 2 different locations, with 2 different groups.
4 and 5 weeks - We have 4 and 5 week options in July and August. You will work on 1 project and go on a shorter Adventure Leadership Trek.
