Get a head start on your college education in the arts! Laguna College of Art + Design offers summer courses which give aspiring art students an opportunity to sample foundation art classes while earning college credit.

Laguna College of Art + Design has a location like no other, in a beachside community that lives and breathes creativity - Laguna Beach, California. Our extensive foundation program gives a thorough preparation for excellence in your chosen field. Our curriculum uses the latest technology and upgrades in hardware and software. And our dedicated faculty and small student-to-teacher class ratio creates an intimate educational environment designed for your success.

LCADs Pre-College courses are offered at a fraction of the cost of standard tuition. Juniors in high school are encouraged to apply for half-and full-tuition scholarships. Deadline for Scholarship consideration is May 1, 2017.

2018 PRE-COLLEGE SUMMER PROGRAM COURSE LISTING

ANIMATION PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT

This course is for students interested in studying how to design for animation. Participants will learn the basics of character design, visual appeal, observational drawing , character development and have a chance to develop their skills and prepare a portfolio specifically for submission to art schools offering animation programs.

5 weeks: July 2nd - July 30th (There will be no class on Wednesday, July 4th - Friday, July 6th)

Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 pm

FANTASY SCULPTURE

This class that allows students to learn techniques and processes of creating maquettes and fantasy sculpture in polymer clay. Working from their own multi-view drawings and reference materials, students design and build armatures, learn to mix polymer clay, and go through steps required to create interesting and detailed sculptures. With demonstrations and personalized critiques, students explore dynamic sculpture design concepts, small-scale tool making and texture/detail application.

5 weeks: July 2nd - July 30th (There will be no class on Wednesday, July 4th - Friday, July 6th)

Monday Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 pm

FD 110 - DRAWING FUNDAMENTALS

A two-unit foundation course that serves as an introduction to drawing with an emphasis on convincing representation of form in space using elements of line, proportion, spatial relationships, value and texture.

5 weeks: July 2nd - July 30th (There will be no class on Wednesday, July 4th - Friday, July 6th)

Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 pm

FD 111 - FUNDAMENTALS OF FIGURE DRAWING

A two-unit class that serves as an introduction to the human form. Students work from the draped and undraped model. Emphasis is on accurate representation of the figure using the elements of anatomy, perception, gesture, contour, line, form, structure and proportion. Prerequisite: Successful completion of or concurrent enrollment in FD110

5 weeks: July 2nd - July 30th (There will be no class on Wednesday, July 4th - Friday, July 6th)

Monday - Thursday 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm

FD 123 - FUNDAMENTALS OF GRAPHIC DESIGN

A two-unit class that explores basic graphic design methods, processes, techniques and formats. Assignments introduce elements, media, and principles of graphic design from historical and contemporary perspectives and emphasize visual representation aimed to communicate ideas and non-visual content.

5 weeks: July 2nd - July 30th (There will be no class on Wednesday, July 4th - Friday, July 6th)

Monday Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

FD 136 - GAME CAMP

A one-unit course designed for students interested in video games to gain exposure to many aspects of video game development through hands-on development of a playable game.

2 weeks: July 9th -12th & July 16th-19th

Monday Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
