ISA High School offers one program for volunteers to earn community service hours in Costa Rica.
ISA High School Service-Learning programs offer volunteer opportunities in Costa Rica that expose students to challenges the local communities face and allow them to make a positive impact while gaining valuable international experience and service hours. In Costa Rica, participants will work alongside a humanitarian organization that helps a community of women and children that have immigrated to Costa Rica from Nicaragua. The project schedule depends on the specific needs of the organization, but volunteers may find themselves constructing houses, painting, landscaping, mixing concrete or mentoring children. Last year the project included volunteering in a daycare center, taking local children on field trips to a dairy farm and pottery factory, and beautifying neighborhoods by painting and repairing homes as well as building handrails, bridges and fences. Students have the option to combine an academic program followed by a service-learning project or to participate in the service-learning project alone.
