The group arrives in Quito and begins the trip with orientation and an excursion to the Papallacta area. Here, we enjoy a nature walk in the Andes and soak in the hot springs! We prepare for the Galapagos Islands with a fascinating activity that reveals the biogeography and natural history of the islands.
The group packs up and takes a quick flight and private boat to the Island of Isabela! We settle in to our new home and make our way to Flamingo Lagoon to enjoy the sunset and marvel at the avid bird life.
The following day we learn to snorkel in the Concha Perla Lagoon and then visit Islote Tintoreras where we snorkel with penguins, sea lions, marine iguanas and colorful tropical fish while enjoying the beautiful beach!
The group visits the world's second largest volcanic crater and spends time at La Bocanilla and Volcan Chico. Later the group decends to Campo Duro, a private reserve on the side of the volcano that boasts thick, blooming hibiscus and an organic garden laden with tropical fruits.
We make our way to the Isabela Giant Tortoise Breeding Center to volunteer and learn from expert biologists. They share the on-going projects with us and how the center has been instrumental in bringing the tortoise back from near extinction.
We're not done snorkeling yet! The group visits Los Tuneles, one of the best snorkeling sites in the Galapagos to witness the habitat of penguins, turtles, manta rays, sharks, and sea lions present in crystalline waters. Then, the group visits the Charles Darwin Research Center and learns more about the natural history and conservation work on the islands.
After a jam packed week of adventure, the group packs up and heads back to Quito to celebrate our adventures with a last night dinner and reflection together. While we are sad to leave, after an unforgettable and impactful experience, we bring home the friendships we’ve made and are excited to share the lessons we’ve learned!
