Travel with GLA and take your Spanish to the next level. Volunteer to improve the education of Peruvian children. Visit key archaeological ruins of the ancient Inca Empire. Shop and barter at the local indigenous craft market. Whitewater raft through the Andes mountains. And discover the incredible Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.
Work with a local women’s artisan cooperative who support their families through the production and sale of Andean dolls. Try your hand at each station of doll production and spend time working on projects with the sons and daughters of the artisans who attend the elementary school in town. Depending on the needs of the community, your service projects may also include building improvements to the artisan workshop and elementary school, or the harvesting of wheat and quinoa for the local community.
The ultimate language learning happens when you can practice that language with native speakers in everyday conversation. GLA uses a unique immersion curriculum that combines classroom time with spoken Spanish in the community – during service hours, cultural workshops and adventure activities. No prior knowledge of Spanish is required; you’ll be placed according to your ability. You will receive about 45 hours of Spanish immersion over the three weeks.
The natural landscapes of Peru create the perfect playground for a weekend adventure, including whitewater rafting and biking. These roads and rivers are the same transport routes that people have been taking for thousands of years, so watch for ruins and relics along the way! Your hike to Machu Picchu will allow you to retrace the the same steps that countless Quechuan natives have taken. Don’t forget to bathe like they did in the past in the natural hot springs that you’ll pass on the journey!

My GLA experience has changed everything for me. It is amazing how just three weeks can do that but it is because of those weeks that I am now more focused and ambitious in my normal life today. I originally decided to join GLA so I could learn leadership skills and I could not be more satisfied with the result. Everything they did was to help me come out of my shell. GLA allowed me to push my own limits by putting me in situations where I had the chance to completely embrace the culture surrounding me, which in the end helped me realize all that I can do. GLA also gave me the opportunity to meet the most amazing people. The friends that I met through GLA are some of the nicest and most outgoing people. It has already been a month since my amazing GLA experience and one of the things I am most grateful for overall are my new friends and the memories I got to share with them. The fact that I got to connect with my friends on an adventure as unique and memorable as this is more than I could ever ask for. One of the main priorities for GLA is community service. The community service in Peru was fantastic. It allowed us all to get to know the community and the land around it. Our program mainly worked in the fields and in a local doll making company. The places that we got to see and the things that we got to do were executed perfectly and I probably wouldn't have been able to experience as much as I did if I hadn't been with GLA. They had events planned from beginning to end and I can't think of a single day that was boring or ordinary. I owe my new love of traveling to GLA and I can't thank them enough for all the memories and life changing experiences.
