I participated in Game Experience 2018 in Washington, and loved it. Having experts come and talk and teach us about the gaming industry and how to make a game was extremely helpful. Along with the amazing experience, you also get incredibly friendly staff. I have a disability, and they were nothing but accomidating and kind. Overall a wonderful experience, and I’m looking forward to doing it next year too.
Parents! Listen closely to this next sentence: Making Games is MUCH different from just playing them, and at this camp your kid can do both! The staff was very friendly and helped everyone who needed it promptly. The people brought in for classroom discussions were directly from the Industry itself, allowing for clear explanations of the requirements. Campers, like myself, experienced light training in all the important aspects of Game Development: Coding, Modeling, Scripting, and Artwork. Specialized individual instruction was also given to further aid the projects. The Day Trips to studios were as informative as a museum trip for future archeologists. The other activities were also great distractions from the stress of game design. The food on campus was also top quality for lunchroom food, and the staff there could tailor their foods to your needs, such as allergies. Overall, 5 out of 5, 10 out of 10! A wonderful experience that I hope to repeat in the future.
This camp was awesome and met multiple great friends! The counselors were very nice, friendly people, and the classes were very helpful in learning how to make a video game!
Amazing experience. The staff are great, informative, and caring for everyone there. Unlike other camps, they treat their participants as individuals and not children being babysat. Great for anyone looking to go into programming, game design, audio, and art/animation.
I went here in the 2018 year and had a ton of fun here. Everyone was super nice and cool. The staff were chill and super helpful. I had such a good time I am going to save up money so I can do it next year. I would have to say this was the best summer I have ever had and it helped me make a ton of friends that I hope to keep in touch with and see next year.
I came into Game Experience not knowing a lot about anything related to game making. However, by the end of the course, I not only learned a lot but I also had a lot of fun during it. Game Experience truly was the best part of my summer.
This camp was great for learning about the production and process of creating a game from the bottom up, and combining this with a friendly atmosphere and fun activities made this an amazing camp. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to learn about this topic in a nice and relaxed environment.
After having gone to this camp twice now, I can firmly say that it's the best camp I've ever been to. The material we learn in class is both interesting and extremely helpful for anyone trying to get into the world of game making. The counselors are amazing because they treat us like we're real people instead of just something they have to look after, and they're also interested in the games we play, even playing alongside us quite a bit. Even the non-game-related parts of the camp are fun; they allow us to see more of the great city of Seattle (and I suppose LA too now, though I haven't gone to a session there before) and appreciate more than just games. I was actually old enough to be a counselor this year and certainly applied for it, but even when I didn't get the counselor position I knew I wanted to come back just to have that experience again. I can assure anyone who's interested in game development that they won't find any other camp at this level, and I am absolutely applying for a counselor position again so I can continue to be involved with this great program.
During my time at Game Experience, I had an amazing time not only learning new skills that could help me in the future, but also meet some new people, both students and staff alike. There was never a moment where I felt bored. Definitely a great program.
Game design is something that I have been interested in for quite some time and I always wanted to learn more about. Other camps like ID tech are nowhere near the quality of Game Experience. Game Experience puts the student in a small dev team with different roles to experience what game development is. They go on tours of studios to go deeper. Along with working on a projext with a team, you get to go on fun trips with your friends. Indoor Skydiving was a great experience that I would never have done if it was not for GE. Overall, what makes GE different from other Game camps is that you learn from experts in each field of development and experience what it’s like to be in a small dev team.
So I attended Game Experience 2018 in Los Angeles and it was incredible. Prior to this experience I didn’t have any knowledge in Unity but coming out I have a good enough foundation that I can continue to explore using it at home. The activities we did after class were super fun too, my favorites being Universal Studios and Santa Monica Pier. The counselors and other students were really nice; I made lots of friends and I’ll continue to be in contact with them. My only complaint is I wish we had more class time and that we visited a AAA game development studio (although the smaller studios were cool too). Overall, my two weeks in LA were some of the best weeks of my life, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is passionate about game design or development.
It was fun meeting with people who have the same passion for game. The course was not only well organized but also masterfully balances having necessary classes in game design, programming, and art with going to fun locations such as Hollywood, Universal Studios, and the Broad Art Museum.
I came to this camp with the mentality to learn more about programming. However, this camp have me more than that. I made a lot of friends that I will definitely keep in touch with and I enjoyed and learned about Seattle. Moreover, this camp showed us about life as a game developer and I appreciate that.
Fantastic program, interesting like minded people, great location, generally three of the best weeks of my life. If you want to explore Seattle, if you want to learn the basics of game design, if you want to learn about the games industry from multiple perspectives, if you like games, then this is the program for you.
Our daughter participated in The Game Experience with Experience America during the summer of 2014. She had never been away from home by herself before, so needless to say, we were nervous to have her head out on this adventure alone. Every staff member we were in contact with at Experience America was incredibly helpful and understanding of our concerns as we planned her trip. Once she was in Seattle, our daughter had the experience of a lifetime. She learned a ton about video game design and the industry. She got to see the best of University of Washington and the great city of Seattle. Another bonus to the program was that it boosted our daughter's self-confidence. Since participating in the program, she has been pushed herself harder in school and has a very clear vision of what she wants to accomplish in her future. We credit Experience America and their amazing staff with helping our daughter grow and learn in more ways we ever dreamed possible. We are so glad she participated in The Game Experience with Experience America and highly recommend it!
As an aspiring game developer, I attended The Game Experience to learn about all the various aspects of game development. (This included design, programming, graphic design, sound design, 3D modeling, animating, and business/marketing.) This two-week program was so well-organized and brilliantly taught that I now have a grasp of each skill and am enabled to explore them all further on my own after the program. Firstly, Seattle is the powerhouse of the game industry and a beautiful city with much variety, making it a perfect location for this program. Regarding the classroom experience, the instructors were beyond competent. They were professionals in the gaming industry with much experience. They were able to teach all of us at our different skill levels and paces. But perhaps most notably, they were very passionate about their work and teaching, which made them all the more effective and inspirational as our instructors. What really impressed me about this program was how engaging, fun, and appealing to our generation it was. There was such a great balance of education and exciting activities that I was never bored or eager to move on to something else each day. We explored the city of Seattle such as by Riding the Ducks and going on the world famous Savor Seattle tour through Pike Place (which was quite a tasty experience for our bottomless stomaches). We also did the widest variety of activities, such as in-door skydiving, laser tag, going to a baseball game, and attending tours of some of the most famous game studios like Pop Cap, Valve, and Big Fish, where we learned more about the game development environment firsthand . . . And that's not to mention all the fun we did have with video games and our projects when we were at our dorms! An unprecedented aspect of this summer program is that they provide their students with smartphones. We all received Nexus 5's, the newest Google phone at the time. This allowed us to easily keep in touch with each other, giving us an incredible resource for communication as well as entertainment. I even used it for some Android game development. If someone were to ask me what it would take to make an educational yet fun summer program, I would refer them to The Game Experience, because their hosts figured it out. As a rising senior in high school, I feel more prepared and confident to pursue game development. I would recommend this experience to anyone. I am very grateful to have enjoyed the privilege of expanding my skills as a game developer so early on and to have had the most fun in years with many new friends.
I have to thank the Experience America team for such an amazing time I had on your Game Experience program last year!! Getting a chance to actually meet the creators of Valve's big titles games was absolutely the highlight of my trip! This program has increased my passion for wanting to become a professional video game developer and seeing first hand into Big Fish, Pop Cap Games and seeing new games and technologies that are not yet out for the public completely blew my mind!! I will never forget the fun times I had around Seattle with the Experience America Team and I appreciate the bond we made throughout my visit. I truly cant thank you all enough and I look forward to seeing you guys next time im in Seattle.
Wow, what an incredible trip!! I never had any idea how sensational 3 weeks could be and where the Game Experience Camp would take me when I signed up. I was slightly nervous about making friends and what game companies I would get to see during the visit. I was left shocked at how many great friends I made from all over the world who I still keep in touch with to this day and this was in large part because of the many fun activities we were taken on during our stay in Seattle. It was non stop laughs and great times, I thought our hosts were so friendly and caring. They really helped us make friends quickly because of the light and goofy orientation they began with. They olympic games competition and BBQ at Golden Gardens was AWESOME! I also had a fanastic time learning about this industry and the great instructors who helped me develop my game. They made it fun and easy and I never thought this trip was going to be this great. Thank you so much for everything and I would definitely recommend this program to anyone interested in creating video games.
Each time I look back at the 3 weeks I spent on the University of Washington campus I get goosebumps. The weather is so beautiful and everyday was better than the next. The program hosts are so helpful and kind, and so much FUN to be around. They made us laugh constantlty which made it very easy to feel comfortable right away when we started out. I couldnt believe how cool it was to use our own creativity and ideas to develop video games with the help of our video game instructors. The video games company tours are so cool!!! We had to sign Non Disclosure Agreements at Valve, Microsoft X-Box Studios because they were showing us new games that had not even hit the public yet!! We got a chance to game test at Monolith Studios which blew my mind. I couldnt have had a better trip. From top to bottom I will miss you guys so much and seriously thank you for a time I will never ever forget! All the best!
