Calling all High School film buffs! EEI Creative Arts, School of Film & Television now accepting applications for our Virtual Summer Film Intensive Program! Take 2-week courses, led by award-winning Hollywood Professionals, and immerse yourself in the world of film through cutting-edge courses in screenwriting, directing, and virtual production, all from the comfort of your own home.
EEI Creative Arts, School of Film & Entertainment is offering three virtual High School summer intensive courses as a way for students to learn the art of storytelling and get exposed to cutting-edge filmmaking techniques. Courses are 2-weeks long and are open to all high school students.
1) SCREENWRITING: VISUAL STORYTELLING BEYOND FILM
Instructor: Michael Tabb, Award-winning screenwriter Dates: July 5 – 16, 2021 Class Times: Monday, Wednesday @ 9:00 – 11:00 AM PST; Friday @ 10:00 AM-12:00 PM PST
Course Description: In the era of Youtube, TikTok, Instagram, and even advertising, most people don't realize just how important screenwriters are to creative media. “Visual Storytelling Beyond Film'' will provide first-time writing students with a creative, non-traditional introduction to the screenwriting process. This course will teach students to develop their original ideas in a unique framework to promote outside-the-box creative thinking as they learn how to adapt existing intellectual property and write an original short-form screenplay.
2) DISRUPTIVE VIRTUAL TECH IN FILM PRODUCTION

Course Description: The world is on the verge of a major paradigm shift in the creation of film and television content. With rapid advancements in camera technology as well as 3D animation and modeling software, we are rapidly approaching the moment where Virtual Production will all but replace traditional practical production. “Disruptive Virtual Tech in Film Production” will give first-time Production students a solid foundational understanding of the tools and techniques being used by cutting-edge filmmakers, including pre-visualization, motion capture, photogrammetry, and LED Walls.
Students will work hands-on with Unreal Engine 4, a state-of-the-art game-creation engine that is used Hollywood’s top filmmakers to make feature films and television. Students will learn to build worlds from scratch, populate them with scenery, buildings, and characters, and create specific narratives within them and will collaborate with their peers in the Directing Course to create a hybrid live-action and UE4-based scene. 3) Directing the Digital Worlds of Tomorrow
Instructor: Peter Hyoguchi, Award-winning director
Dates: July 19 - 30 Class Times: Monday, Wednesday, Friday @ 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM PST
Course Description: Becoming a film director in the future will look radically different in the next 10 years than it did in the past 130 years because of what can be done with technology. “Directing the Digital Worlds of Tomorrow” will provide students with a working knowledge of the fundamentals of Directing feature films and television projects, as well as introduce key emerging technologies in the field of Virtual Production. Students will learn the basics of breaking down a script, planning shots, and how to operate camera equipment while working with actors and crew and managing a set on micro and macro levels. Students will also learn to work with a state-of-the-art gaming engine used by Hollywood filmmakers, Unreal Engine 4, texturing program, Houdini, and a suite of state-of-the-art editing software as they will collaborate with their peers in the Virtual Production Course to create a hybrid live-action and UE4-based scene.
