Early College Summer Program

The Early College Program invites academically talented junior and senior high school students to take introductory- or intermediate-level college courses at Drew's beautiful campus located in beautiful Madison, New Jersey, just 29 miles from New York City.

Early College students share the classroom with college students and are taught by Drew's distinguished faculty. Students may select classes from a wide array of disciplines, including Anthropology, Art, Business, English, Math, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Theatre.

Credits earned during the Early College Program can be applied towards an undergraduate degree at Drew or submitted for transfer credit to the college you attend.

Students attending through the Early College Program pay a substantially reduced tuition of $1,400 per 4-credit course.

Theatre Arts Summer Program

Designed for students interested in the New York Theatre scene, Drew offers a three-week intensive program that meets four days a week, two days in New York City and two days on Drew's campus in Madison, NJ.

Designed for students interested in the New York Theatre scene - its current shows and artists, its history and its future - from Broadway to the mainstream, to groundbreaking off and off-off Broadway venues that maintain so many of today's artists, and foster tomorrow's.

Whether you are a theatre lover, or an aspiring artist, this program will give you plenty to satisfy your desire to be a part of the heart of American Theatre.

Students register for one or both of the two, 4-credit options listed below:

Studio Art Portfolio Preparation

This non-credit course is designed for students interested in developing their artistic skills and/or pursuing art in college. Students may attend one or both of the courses indicated.

Mixed Media: Use drawing, painting, and sculpture skills to create a series of works on paper. Materials unique to printmaking -- collograph, monotype, etching and relief -- will be used to make rich, colorful images. Emphasis will be placed on developing visual language and texture, laying and spontaneous application of ink using non-toxic approaches. Students will use copper plats and a corrosive salt (no acid!) for etching, and building collographs with cardboard, thin textured materials and glue. Discussion of contemporary art practice will take place as students sample approaches to describing pertinent issues and concerns with evocative, multilevel print techniques.

Drawing

In this class, students will learn the basics of drawing. Through use of line, shape, mass, space, texture and color, and drawing concepts like contour drawing, gesture drawing and negative shape drawing, students will experience how these visual art elements and concepts transform into art that can effect us emotionally, physically, psychologically and intellectually. This class is designed to afford students with a strong foundation in basic drawing concepts. A variety of materials will be used for the purpose of experiencing how their personalities can influence content. Class critiques will help students verbalize the relationship between real world and the world of drawing.
