The Summer Institute is an intensive five-week gateway experience designed for 30-45 incoming students who, besides their academic potential, show much promise in the areas of leadership and community/civic engagement.
The Summer Institute is designed to ease the transition to college and enhance the academic preparedness of its participants each year. The program promotes personal growth and educational achievement.
OUS students live on campus and participate in two academic courses taught by Colgate faculty, with emphasis on critical reading, analytical writing, and quantitative literacy skills. We recognize that not all incoming students have equal access to resources while they are in high school. Summer Institute exists to ensure that students who have proven their intellect and determination are fully prepared for the university's academic rigor.
