Champion a cause, learn about life in a developing country, and go out on a limb — far outside your comfort zone! Students who attend this 3-week CIEE program in Iringa, Tanzania will mentor young girls through soccer training camps and English conversation practice. They will also create and facilitate a girls’ soccer league.
Your mission: To encourage the empowerment of girls through soccer and local NGO, Karibu Tanzania Association. Your challenge: To rough it in a completely foreign culture, with minimal comforts from home. Your rewards: Learning different ideas about time, about making a living, and about the important things in life. Learning that through hard work you can make an impact. This life-changing program is for adventure seekers, sports buffs, and budding global citizens eager for a truly authentic learning experience. While promoting the advancement of girls in Tanzania, you’ll be gaining an extraordinary education of your own about life in the developing world. Tanzania is a vibrant, welcoming country where guests are met with open arms. Locals love soccer and love discussing current events, so get ready for both! Each day you’ll coach girls on the soccer field. In your free time, wind down and play touch rugby, volleyball, basketball, and soccer (of course!) with your friends. For five hours a week, learn survival Swahili skills to be better able to communicate with your new friends. Enjoy daily activities from movie nights to Maasai jewelry making to basket making and short hikes. Spend time with your homestay families in the evenings to experience real life in Tanzania.
