Centenary Summer Scholars is a day and residential summer academic enrichment program for students entering grades 8-12. During this one-week, pre-college experience, students pursue their interests both within and beyond the standard curriculum, taking one Major course and one Elective.
The Centenary Summer Scholars Program at Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ, is designed to give students a fun and dynamic pre-college experience. Students intensively focus their studies on one course but also engage in activities outside of class, including a wide range of electives and less structured events such as Ultimate Frisbee games, swimming at the recreation center, or playing games in the dorm lounges. On each Saturday of the program, both day and residential students have the opportunity to travel to New York City for the day.
The Major courses offered by the Centenary Summer Scholars program are intended to allow students to study a subject not traditionally offered in the high school curriculum. These subjects include: Psychology, Sustainability; Forensic Science; Veterinary Science; Writing; TV Production; Fashion Design; and Computer Programming & Game Design. Electives cover everything from College Essay Writing to Improve Comedy to programs at the Equestrian Center. In addition to the fun team-building activities planned by program staff, members of the Centenary Admissions Office will lead a College Admission Seminar, complete with mock interviews, to help de-mystify the application process. Every Friday evening, students celebrate the end of each session with a dance party.
Admission to the Centenary Summer Scholars program is conducted on a rolling basis and is subject to class size. Applications will be accepted until the program is filled.
The Reeves Student Center, a brand new recreation center, Founders Hall, a suite-style residence hall, and Lackland Center, a sophisticated performing arts center, are highlights of Centenary Colleges campus. Residential students live in fully air-conditioned suites comprised of: 4 individual bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a main living room, and a kitchen. Founders Hall has large common areas on each floor, complete with TVs, couches, ping-pong tables, and quiet areas. Each meal in the dining hall offers meat and vegetarian options, as well as large salad and ice cream bars!
