Overview

The AU Gap Program offers immersive two-week non-credit Summer Institutes for rising high school juniors, seniors, and recent graduates. Open to domestic and international applicants, students will experience Washington, DC through seminars, guest speakers, and site-visits.

For 70 years, American University's Washington Semester Program has used DC as a classroom to offer experiential education to college students at U.S. universities and our partners around the world.  We've taken the best of this legacy program to create the American University Gap Program and Summer Institutes for pre-college students.

Our summer institute programs offer rising junior and senior high school students and recent graduates a two-week, immersive seminar that features field experts, lectures, and site visits.  This program is non-credit and open to domestic and international students.

The program will be experiential, with a focus on active learning - consisting of daily lectures, guest speakers, simulations and excursions in Washington DC.
