Overview

Arcos Journeys Abroad is a premier summer study abroad program for high school students. It is the division of Arcos Learning Abroad dedicated to working with participants ages 14 to 18 years of age. Join us for the summer of your life!

Arcos Journeys Abroad programs are located in some of the most unique Spanish-speaking locations in the world: Spain, Mexico, Costa Rica, Argentina, and Peru. Participants from across the US and Canada form part of the Arcos groups.

Choose from three program types: Active Discovery, Cultural Discovery, and Spanish Immersion. All program types include excursions, cultural activities, and immersion into the host country culture and language. Whichever program type you choose at least 50% of the time is dedicated to its theme or focus.

For most programs, Arcos uses homestays. Hosts provide meals and help participants with their Spanish and to learn about the local culture. Each Arcos group has onsite directors available 24/7 who are in charge of the group from arrival to departure. Arcos Journeys programs accept on a rolling basis. Cost and Session Information

Arcos Journeys Abroad programs are designed to be all-inclusive. Program fees include: Spanish classes or workshops, cultural activities, excursions, onsite directors, accommodations, meals, international medical insurance and much more.

This trip was the most amazing experience of my life. I explored the beautiful city of Oaxaca, saw amazing places and tasted great food. Arcos coordinators made me feel completely safe and taken care of at all times.

I had the best time on this trip! Our days were packed with the best excursions and it was all thoroughly planned out. Communication before the trip was great everything was very well organized and safe. Would recommend this program 100000/10!

Incredible experience!! I enjoyed the food and culture and could not think of a better way to learn a language! My host mom and our program directors did an amazing job at showing us around the city and making sure we accomplished our goals for the trip (travel, learn a language or about a culture, etc.) Would 100% go back!!

This was my daughter's second trip with Arcos which already says how pleased we are. She went to Oaxaca with the teen program this summer and had a wonderful experience. The pre-departure communication and responsiveness is great and the country directors are great. She had a great time, improved her Spanish, made good friends and we felt assured that she was safe and well-cared for. We highly recommend the Arcos programs.

Five STARS!!!!!! I can't say enough about Arcos. My 15-year-old son spent the whole month of July in Argentina living with a family, taking Spanish classes, making new like-minded friends and participating in cultural activities like cooking classes, horseback riding, Tango lessons, Mate Club, visiting Uruguay. He absolutely loved the experience, and we loved the program for him. Since he doesn't drive yet and doesn't want to go to camps anymore this was the ideal experience for him. Arcos is extremely professional, and they are good communicators. The program director in Buenos Aires was very communicative with us while our son was there. I can't say enough positive things about this program and experience for my son. We originally were looking at him doing an 8 week program with another program, but we decided the application process was too laborious and 8 weeks was too long for his first experience abroad by himself. My son made some great friends while he was there, they were social and did a lot of activities hanging out in Buenos Aires. He loved the freedom and taking the metro. One day he even walked 10 miles just around town. He always felt safe, but he said he had to be aware of his surroundings, he did have someone try and pick pocket him however they weren't successful. Go do this program if you are flexible, have a sense of curiosity and adventure about the world!!!!!!! Also, my son is glad he stayed for a month and not just two weeks.

I could not be happier with our Arcos experience. The communication with the staff was reliable and consistent from beginning to end. My daughter felt welcomed and safe at her home stay. The community service opportunities were rewarding. The eco adventures were thrilling and educational. She made friendships that will last a lifetime and came home with a more confident and independent spirit. 10/10 recommend.

My Arcos experience was amazing!! The organizers were extremely helpful and fun to be around. Our activities were entertaining and my host family was very kind and accepting. I would 100% recommend this to anyone trying to learn Spanish or anyone that wants to learn more about different cultures.

Great program in Oaxaca Mexico. Ancestral Flavors- cooking culture and language. My son already speaks Spanish so that was less of a focus for him, but he had a fabulous family for the homestay loved the cooking lessons and excursions- especially camping in the mountains. This is a great, well run program.

Both Adri and Alex had an amazing time in Mexico in the Arcos program. They enjoyed all of the sport excursions and cultural activities. Surfing and beach were particularly fun. They had a chance to practice their Spanish and learn about the local culture. They met new friends and had a great time with them. They are also very thankful to Pamela who took care of them and helped them through some challenging situations. Although Adrian's phone and some money were stolen, he looks back at this as a learning experience and knows to pay more attention to his surroundings. Both boys loved every minute in Mexico. I am extremely happy with Arcos and how well everything was organized at the local level. The on-site director and admins are extremely supportive, honest, dependable, with superior conflict resolution skills. They took very good care of our children. We look forward to booking another trip with Arcos. Cheers! Basia

I had so much fun and I am SO glad I went!!! At first I wasn't sure I wanted to go. I was super nervous because I didn't know anyone and I've never traveled alone. But I felt very safe and well taken of the whole time I was away. I met so many awesome new friends who I hope to keep in touch with. I stayed with a super nice host family and had a great experience even though it was awkward at first. My host mom was very welcoming and cooked yummy food. I loved being in Costa Rica, even though it was a bit rainy. It's so pretty and everything is so lush. Atenas was a perfect size town to be in. I loved the open air language school. I was glad the classes were low key. We had some fun and creative assignments. There were cool cultural activities and also fun adventures. 2 weeks was a perfect amount of time for my 1st experience being away like this. I was really happy I did it.

Highly recommended. Fantastic program, very easy to work with. Would absolutely use them again. My daughter did the three week Mexico trip and had a great experience. She really enjoyed the class that she took, her host family was so very nice and helpful and took great care of her. The group of students she was with got along great and really enjoyed each other's company. They did several fun excursions and got to enjoy some very cool Mexican traditions. The staff was incredibly helpful through the whole process. Great experience all around!

Overall this was the most amazing experience. I met so many amazing people who were also going on the trip. the host families were all so sweet and generous and it was amazing to see how they live differently than me. The excursions and activities we did were so much fun and most of it was stuff I probably won't get an opportunity to do again. I will remember this experience and the people I met for my entire life.

I had an amazing experience studying in Argentina. The teachers at the school we attended during the week were eager to help me improve my Spanish-speaking skills. The cultural excursions we went on such as visiting museums, going to a gaucho ranch, and taking cooking and dancing classes were both fun and educational. I stayed with an incredibly kind host family, and my program leaders Beatriz Barragan and Kevin Williams were both very supportive, informative, and helpful. After I returned home from Argentina, my Spanish had greatly improved (I even developed an Argentinian accent while away), and I had gained a much greater knowledge of Argentinian culture. If you are considering study abroad programs in Argentina, definitely choose Arcos Journeys Abroad - you will have an amazing experience!

My trip to Oaxaca was one of the greatest adventures I've ever been on in the summer. The housing was wonderful and the family's were very nice and supportive. Me, personally I only knew the basics of Spanish, but just being in Mexico and actually having to speak it every day was a huge help with learning the language. I enjoyed the city, and the different trips we went on were so interesting: we learned about weaving and the use the natural pigments, we had a cooking class, we went to different ruins near Oaxaca city, we had a cool dance class, and we hiked to a spectacular spring. We also took a trip to the coast where we snorkeled and took a boat trip to amazing, isolated beaches. I would highly recommend this program because it was very well organized, and the staff and families were extremely friendly. We volunteered at a a community garden and a hospital as well, which was a nice way to give back to the community. We also had a lot of freedom to explore in the city, which I really appreciated and enjoyed.

Buenos Aires surpassed all of my expectations a million times over. The city is beautiful, the host families are excellent, and the activities are extremely informative and entertaining. I had some reservations about the city safety wise, which I realized were unfounded when I arrived. In addition the porte~no accent is difficult to understand so beginners may have a hard time at first, but the accent is super unique and after a while it's quirks will become second nature. I would definitely recommend traveling to Buenos Aires through Arcos Journeys Abroad.

It was one of the best experiences of my life. Ena, the director, was amazing. She was so kind and funny. She made everything 100 times better. I made amazing friends who I will never forget. I also experienced once in a life time opportunities. I learned so much about the local culture and increased my ability to speak Spanish, which is a very weak area for me. The program really struck the right balance between school work and studying and fun activities. I always felt safe and well supported. Words cannot express how happy I am that I did this program. I had so much fun and I would do it again if I could.

I really enjoyed my time in Argentina. I'll never forget the experience. I built many relationships with many people and I hope that we remain in contact with each other! The experience that I got made me feel comfortable, almost like I was home, even though I was a continent away. One of the reasons why I participated in the program was because I really wanted to improve my Spanish, and I truly believe that I accomplished my goal. If anyone is interested in the Argentina program, definitely do it!!

My time spent in Buenos Aires, Argentina with this program was genuinely one of the most amazing experiences in my life. I felt very safe in every situation, which allowed me to enjoy everyday without worries. Moreover, I was able to developer an amazing connection with my host mom, who provided the most comfortable stay I could've asked for. The school was never boring, and every class was very engaging and helpful. My program director, Kevin Williams, was one of the most fun-loving and responsible people I have ever met, and is truly one of the reasons my trip was so good. I would recommend that anybody interested in studying abroad chooses Arcos, because not only is it less expensive than other programs, it's more immersive and enriching.
