Overview

We offer exciting, rewarding outdoor adventure education for youth ages 12-18 ranging in length from 5-20 days. Teen Wilderness Adventures combine one or more outdoor activities--like hiking, rock climbing, backpacking, kayaking, canoeing, rafting, --with spectacular destinations.

Start by exploring the wilds of the White Mountains, and then tackle New Hampshire's best whitewater. We'll begin by backpacking three to six miles each day over rugged terrain and camping each night in a tent, shelter, or low-impact back country site. The group will collectively carry everything you need to be comfortable and safe in the backcountry. Next, explore the rapids of rivers such as the Androscoggin or Saco during the day and return to the same campsite each night where you will have time to build fires and bond with new friends. Programs start on flat water to learn paddle strokes and skills, then move on to moving water, and finally Class I, II and possibly lass III whitewater! Trip planned for ages 14-16 General Orientation: Day1: After an introductory meeting with instructors, group and parents, gear is checked and issued. After Lunch the group heads to the trailhead and begins their hike to the first campsite where they learn about camp set up, cooking on a camp stove, and sleeping comfortably in the backcountry. Day 2-3 The group works together to break down camp. Goes over their route for the day, and hit the trail for their next camp site stopping for lunch and breaks along the trail. The group continues refining their outdoor skills, and developing friendships and enjoying the scenic views along the way. After arriving in camp, the group may play a game, or participate in team initiatives, or have some down time to reflect on their experience in the outdoors. Day 4: The group will hike back to Pinkham Notch, where they will resupply on food and equipment and transition to the Kayaking section of the trip. They will be picked up and transported to Great Glen trails where they will get outfitted with boats and paddling equipment. They will spend their first afternoon on flat water, learning paddle strokes and how to maneuver their kayaks. Day 5-6: Participants will have opportunities each day to challenge themselves further in rapids of increasing difficulty and excitement and on different rivers around the area. Day 7: The group returns to Pinkham where they will have lunch, de-issue borrowed equipment and debrief their trip before being picked up in the afternoon.
