Lavelle School for the Blind provides a unique educational experience. The school provides a wide range of special education and habilitation services to a population of students with many challenges.
Following the New York State Standards, each student's IEP includes a combination of educational and intensive therapeutic services that are integrated into the classroom the majority of the time. Lavelle is unique in providing this combination of educational and intensive therapeutic services. This combination of expertise in blindness (including Braille, large print, tangible cues, augmentative devices, adaptive technology, and concept development), speech, sensory integration, fine and gross motor, oral motor, orientation/mobility, feeding, transition, independent living skills, adaptive physical education, behavior management skills, orientation/mobility skills and therapeutic music and art creates a unique learning environment.
