    Overview

Wittenberg enjoys a national reputation for excellent academic standards and is widely known for its friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Guests on our campus will quickly feel the friendliness with the first of many "Wittenberg Hellos" during their visit.

The same can be found inside the classroom where professors understand that personal attention makes a huge difference in how students learn. The fact that many encourage conversation after class or host gatherings in their homes only supports their passion for teaching and their desire to ensure students' success.

In addition to offering course work in the humanities, arts and sciences, Wittenberg also offers distinct academic programming in non-traditional areas in most liberal arts colleges, including business, computational science and teacher education certification.

Students who attend Wittenberg tend to rank in the top quarter of their high school class, and many are fully engaged leaders, who are involved with everything from student government to athletics. Its no surprise that Wittenberg has more than 120 active clubs to cultivate all interests, as well as 23 varsity sports that compete at the highest levels in NCAA Division III.

While the academic program is rigorous, students are, in general, more collaborative than they are competitive. There is a real sense of community learning at Wittenberg that happens not only between students, but also with their professors. Academic integrity is part of the universitys mission and is taken seriously by students and faculty.

Outside the classroom, students who succeed at Wittenberg tend to be adventurous. Most students will participate in an internship experience, or study abroad at some point. Others will do summer science research or an independent study. And even more participate in travel opportunities or service projects during spring break and the summer months.

In addition, many students crave the diversity of learning experiences, which is why they regularly venture into Springfields various cultural centers. Others explore the recreational opportunities within the region, including caving, kayaking or just relaxing at the nearby reservoir. On the weekends, students are usually engaged in numerous campus activities, ranging from athletic competitions and Greek life events to impromptu social gatherings in residence halls or on the front porches of the many historic homes that make up the campus' vibrant and dynamic University District.

Taken together, the Wittenberg experience ensures that students will graduate not only prepared for whatever pursuit they choose, but as well-rounded, unique individuals ready to lead personal, professional, and civic lives of creativity, service, compassion, and integrity.
