As a mid-size university with nearly 11,500 students, we are large enough to offer extensive learning resources and impressive facilities, yet small enough to provide personalized attention and small classes that average just 19 students. William paterson is known for its wide range of rigorous undergraduate and graduate programs, offered through its five colleges: Arts and Communication, Cotsakos College of Business, Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Science and Health.

    The College of the Arts and Communication offers an array of programs and events encompassing the worlds of visual arts and design, music, media, theater, and interpersonal communication. The organization and focus of the College make it comparable to a small arts college located in a larger university setting, combining individualized instruction with interaction in a community of practitioners. The College of the Arts and Communication offers both professional and undergraduate liberal arts degrees in art, music, and communication. The bachelor of arts degree programs strengthen students' understanding and appreciation of visual and performing arts. The College also offers professional undergraduate degrees: the bachelor of fine arts and the bachelor of music.

    The Department of Art offers courses in Two-Dimensional Design and Digital Process, Three-Dimensional Design, Drawing, Life Drawing, Color Theory, Painting, Sculpture, Art History, Painting and Printmaking, Graphic and Interactive Design, Animation and Multimedia, Photography and Digital Image Processes, and Sculpture and 3D Design. Programs include a BFA in Fine Arts, a BA in Art History, and a BA in Art Studio.

    The College of Arts and Communication offers a BA in Broadcast Journalism, a BA in Interpersonal Communication, a BA in Media Production, a BA in Media Studies, a BA in Print Journalism, a BA in Public Relations, and a BA in Theatre & Comedy.

    The Department of Music provides the resources, guidance, and diverse environment that motivates students to build and maintain careers in classical and jazz performance and composition, sound engineering arts, music education, and music management. Combining traditional teaching and learning with innovative approaches, the Department gives students the knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of the contemporary musical environment.
