    Overview

A sidewalker's job is to maintain awareness of the rider and give physical support as needed. Leader's job is to maintain awareness and when appropriate control the horse. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old to participate in lessons. Younger volunteers may participate in opportunities outside the arena with parental supervision.

The mission of SIRE is to improve the quality of life for people with special needs through therapeutic horsemanship activities & therapies & educational outreach. The number one diagnosis we serve is autism. Although our riders’ ages range from three years to senior citizens, the majority of our riders are children. SIRE participates in special events & competitions throughout the year, including the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and Special Olympics.
