What is race?_________________________ How can we come to understand our American political systems in terms of it? In this introductory Political Science course for high school students, these two questions will be the basis of our exploration of race and its dynamic role in shaping American politics in the past and continually in the present.

In thinking about race, we think it takes on one role and remains the same, but in this course we will explore the "rollercoaster ride" that is the influence of racial oppression on American political systems and the very fabric of American society. To critically analyze this, we will address the main perspectives, debates and controversies within the field of race and American politics, to better understand the (mostly under-acknowledged) extensive history of racial subjugation within the foundations of America.
