    _____________________________

This course takes a developmental approach to examine women's health across the lifespan -- from birth to old age. We will use theories and methods from biocultural anthropology, human biology, reproductive ecology, and evolutionary medicine to contextualize how women's health is shaped by physiology, environment, culture, and our evolutionary past.

Topics will include menarche, pregnancy, lactation, early life effects on reproduction, growth and development, and menopause, among others. Throughout this course, we will practice integrating biological and cultural concepts to learn about their influence on women's global health and well-being.

Students will complete a final research project based on a class topic they wish to explore more in-depth that will include independent ethnographic or epidemiological research. This course will be of particular interest to students considering medical and health-based careers.

Schedule: Live, synchronous sessions will meet Monday - Friday, 1 - 3pm (Eastern Time). Plus additional asynchronous work as assigned.

    Attendance

Students attending the online program are expected to attend all class sessions live in real time. In order to prioritize the health and well-being of participants, eligibility is restricted to applicants residing in time zones where class hours do not extend beyond midnight.
