Learn about pre-college opportunities Summer Session 2021. Our online pre-college programs are designed to give you a preview of the UMass student experience, including college-level academics and being part of a learning community of high school students from all across the U.S. and the world.
This 2-week program is designed for students who want to explore the fundamentals of digital drawing and digital watercolor. Emphasis will be on architecture and landscape architecture.
Students will learn to use Adobe Photoshop to create digital art on a computer, and use Adobe Photoshop Sketch and Adobe Fresco apps to draw and paint on iPad. Basic artistic and design concepts will be covered, such as composition, color, value, and perspective. This digital art program is project-based so that students will end the course with a collection of digital representations that can be part of their portfolio.
No experience needed. For high school students at all levels who are interested in architecture, landscape architecture, or fine art.
Courses will be delivered online through live meetings and will include offline assignment and projects.Courses meet synchronously 3 - 5 times per week primarily using Zoom, but may use other communication tools. Courses will be managed through UMass Amherst's Moodle or Blackboard platforms. Learn more about Blackboard and Moodle.
The course schedule is as follows:
Day 1: Introductions to fellow students and the McCormack Department. Creative discussion around sport, society, and why sports is a unique industry to study and work in.
Day 2: Course #1 - Sport & Digital Media
Day 3: Course #2 - Sport Markets & Economics
Day 4: Course #3 - Sport Marketing & Branding Day 5: Q&A with alumni working in the sport industry (past guests have included alumni working with the Miami Heat, New England Patriots, ESPN, NHL, NBA, NFL, and US Olympic Committee), college/career advice session, and program conclusion
Course content will be delivered live, via ZOOM, for two (2) hours each day.
Asynchronous (non-live) assignments, readings, case studies, and/or workshops will also be provided online, for students to complete throughout the week and bring to class for discussion.

Program fees include tuition, a technology fee, and a one-time registration fee. Certain programs have an additional materials fee to cover the cost of necessary tools and supplies (included in total). These come pre-packaged through the host departments.
