The Rosetta Institute of Biomedical Research offers Molecular Medicine workshops for high achieving high school and middle school students interested in pursuing a career in medicine or related fields, such as pharmacy, nursing or medical research. Offered year-round. Online and in-person options are available, including residential camps at some of the worlds best universities.
We offer several workshops – Molecular Biology of Cancer, Molecular Neuroscience, Molecular Immunology, Molecular Biology of Aging, Medicinal Chemistry, Medical Bioinformatics, Emerging Pathogenic Viruses, Intro to Cellular and Molecular Medicine, and Biomedical Research – that are taught by PhD-level instructors with years of research and teaching experience. Through engaging lectures and hands-on laboratory classes, students learn normal molecular and cellular biology, and then learn how these normal processes are disrupted or distorted during the development of disease. In addition, there is a heavy emphasis on modern drug development and the emergence of the era of personalized medicine. To conclude the workshop, students use what they have learned to create an original research project on a gene or molecular process of their choice.
More broadly, workshop attendees make friends from around the world, strengthen their academic skills, and experience college dorm life in a safe environment.
Fall/Winter/Spring/Summer workshops are scheduled.
Winter break workshops (online and in-person): 1. Medical Bioinformatics 2. Medicinal Chemistry 3. Biomedical Research
Spring workshops (online): 1. Emerging Pathogenic Viruses (online, afternoons) (3/14-3/25) 2. Intro to Cellular and Molecular Medicine (online, afternoons) (3/28-4/8)
Summer Residential and Commuter workshops:
University-based workshops (residential and commuter): There are three Molecular Biology of Cancer workshops, three Molecular Neuroscience workshops, two Molecular Immunology workshops, and one Molecular Biology of Aging workshop held concurrently at the University of California, Berkeley and the University of California, San Diego during summer 2022. Molecular Biology of Cancer and Molecular Neuroscience workshops will be held 6/5-6/18 and 6/19-7/2 at UC Berkeley, and from 7/10-7/23 at UC San Diego. The Molecular Immunology workshops are 6/5-6/18 at UCB and 7/10-7/23 at UCSD and the Molecular Biology of Aging workshop is 6/19-7/2 at UCB.
In-person commuter-only workshops: These workshops are held at our facility in Alameda, CA, and are commuter-only so students from outside the area would need to find their own accommodations. Biomedical Research (7/6-7/16, 7/18-7/28 and 8/3-8/13)
Summer online workshops: 1. Intro to Cellular and Molecular Medicine (6/6-6/17) 2. Medicinal Chemistry (6/20-7/1) 3. Medical Bioinformatics (7/5-7/16 and 8/1-8/13)
