Lyric First Stage is The Lyric Stage’s summer program for enthusiastic young artists who want to develop their theatrical skills by collaborating with professional mentors in a professional environment.

The Company takes part in a series of workshops & a repertory theatre production experience, exploring ideas through text, music, and movement, while building confidence and refining artistry in a non-competitive, team-building process. At the end of five weeks, Lyric First Stage presents two plays in repertory at The Lyric Stage Company of Boston: a Shakespearean classic and an American musical.

Lyric First Stage welcomes artists aged 14 to 20 to enroll. Prior theater experience is not required, but all participants should be willing to take part in the responsibilities of this intensive 5-week theater program. No audition is required for the program.  Participants will be confirmed upon receipt of application.

    The Young Artist Company

Peter A. Carey, a professional director, actor, and educator, will lead a group of professional theatre artists and educators who work collaboratively with our company of young artists. The Lyric First Stage Program concludes with full productions of a Shakespeare classic and an American musical performed in repertory at The Lyric Stage Company of Boston. All participants will be cast in both performances.

    Stage Management Opportunities

Lyric First Stage offers students interested in working backstage the chance to work with a professional stage management mentor. A good stage manager is an integral part of the artistic team, and this will be your opportunity to improve your skills and gain crucial experience. Stage Management participants will develop skills in organization and management, help run rehearsals, oversee tech week activities, and call performances, and develop great leadership skills.
