    Overview

Participate in community-level conservation efforts for wild African species in Rabat, Morocco.

Rabat’s mix of coastal, forest and urban environments offers firsthand insight into minimizing human impact on natural habitats. Local communities from the cedar forests of the Atlas to the sandy dunes of the Sahara are working together to conserve native species, creating innovative solutions to protect vital ecosystems.

With fellow Global Navigators, assess strategies used by wildlife conservationists in Northern Africa. Collect data and analyze how urban development impacts coastal ecosystems. Venture to the forests of the Atlas Mountains, home to endangered species including the Barbary macaque and Cuvier's gazelle.

Uncover the traditions of Arab and Amazigh life as you stroll ancient medinas (walled cities) and souks (markets). Sip sweet Moroccan mint tea with locals and visit historical landmarks like Hassan Tower. On excursions, travel to Marrakesh, an imperial city rich in history, and the Sahara Desert, where you’ll sleep in a desert camp in the dunes. Your time in Rabat will prepare you for a career in conservation and demonstrate how you can contribute to your own community back home.
