Centenary Summer Scholars academic camp features pre-college summer programs for rising 8th through 12th grade students. This class will combine hands-on pure study of biology, including biology labs and experiments, as well as preparation for the AP Biology test. Find out more!
For many of today’s healthcare professionals and field scientists, everything started with a love and proclivity towards Biology. A bio major as an undergrad is a great way to get in the channel that leads to Med school and beyond… but it is also a great way for students who want to become forensic scientists, zoologists, biologists, oceanographers and much much more!
Biology is the key to so many of these life sciences as well as med school. For high school students interested in these fields, it is all about the Advance Placement test. This class will combine hands-on pure study of biology, including biology labs and experiments, as well as preparation for the test. Whether you are taking the test in the coming year, or a year or two down the road, this class is deigned to be an introduction to the fascinating world of biology. This class will also offer insight into the academic path to a career in the sciences or medicine. Students who are considering becoming doctors, veterinarians, forensic scientists, biologists, oceanographers, or other science fields, a background in biology is essential.
Get ready to put on lab coats and safety goggles and do actual lab work in a University-level science lab! We won’t be sitting in lecture halls all day; we will be giving you the tools to excel in AP Biology and on the AP Biology Test. You do not need prior experience in Biology, Chemistry or anything else to attend this class.
For students who have taken CSS science courses like forensic science or veterinary science, this is a great follow-on course. Previous coursework at CSS or anywhere else is not required; this course is open to anyone who is considering taking an AP Biology class/test, exploring a career in the sciences or healthcare fields, or simply loves biology, nature and hands-on lab work.
We will examine and closely identify the course of study that leads a high school student from high school through undergraduate studies to medical school as well as earth sciences like oceanography and other science fields like forensic science, zoology and more.
The AP Biology Test: Many of the students who will take this course will be taking the AP Biology test during their high school years. We will be using the AP test prep materials, studying for and doing work towards that test. Our work will be both in the classroom and also in the field as we prep for this. This course is not simply an AP Bio test prep class; but working on, looking at, and de-mystifying the exam are all part of what this course is about.
