    Overview

California Backpacking Camp is a small screen free camp where your teen will be supported facing the arduous challenges of surviving the natural world with a healthy dose of problem solving, team work, and play. No prior backpacking experience required. During our first week we will travel up the west coast as an “acclimatization” period. We will backpack Point Reyes National Seashore, hike through the giant redwoods of Mendocino, and enjoy all that Coastal California has to offer. On our second week we will move east for a backpacking trip in the Shasta-Trinity Alps Wilderness, and mountaineering on Mount Shasta. Our third week will be in Bear Valley, just south of Lake Tahoe, for guided rock climbing. The next stop is Sequoia NP for a tour of their crystal caves and an extended backpacking trip in the world famous Sierra Nevada. During our last week we will come back to Santa Barbara’s own Los Padres NF for a service day doing maintenance on a local trail. Our final trip includes a boat ride to Santa Cruz Island where we will spend the afternoon sea kayaking through caves. A cross island backpacking trip serves as our grand finale.
